IFMST President Statement

Dear Mayors, Urban Managers, Researchers, and Experts in Sports, Tourism, and Sustainable Development, as well as all those dedicated to building a better future for our cities,
It is my honor, on behalf of the International Federation of Municipal Sports and Tourism (IFMST), to present this statement on the occasion of the First International Conference on Citizen Sports and Sustainable Development.
The IFMST was established with the aim of creating scientific, executive, and participatory platforms between municipalities, sports organizations, universities, and international institutions. Our core mission is to enhance the quality of life for citizens through the promotion of urban sports, sustainable tourism, and a culture of active living in urban environments.
The organization of the First International Conference on Citizen Sports and Sustainable Development arises from a global necessity:
Today, cities are facing a multitude of challenges—including declining physical activity, spatial inequalities, social erosion, and environmental degradation. Citizen sports are not only an effective tool for improving the physical and mental health of urban populations, but also serve as a vital connector in social development, enhancing social capital, and realizing spatial justice.
This conference provides a unique opportunity for urban managers, academics, civil society organizations, and the private sector to come together and explore solutions that connect sports, cities, and sustainability.
We believe that the development of urban sports, improvement of sports infrastructure, precise financial planning, and the adoption of innovative technologies can serve as the foundation for profound transformations in urban management.
The impact of this conference on urban management is multidimensional and strategic:
• Opening new horizons in urban policymaking with a focus on sports and citizen engagement
• Strengthening the infrastructural and human capacities of municipalities to achieve sustainability
• Increasing international cooperation and the exchange of successful experiences
• Ultimately, contributing to the creation of vibrant, healthy, joyful, and livable cities for all
In conclusion, I invite all institutions, researchers, and city leaders to participate in this dynamic and effective movement in global urban governance through their presence, support, and contribution of scientific and practical papers.
With respect,
Dr. Mohammad Eshghi
President of IFMST
